• The need for meaningful connection has never been greater! Sign up as an ISBA leader

    By Anjie Shutts, ISBA President-elect
Did you work remotely over the past year and miss the connections with your professional colleagues? Did you observe changes to your practice that made you wish you could help steer the legal profession to meet future challenges? Is your 2021 resolution to make new connections and further your career? Your best first step to accomplish these goals is to apply to serve on an ISBA section council or committee.

The Iowa State Bar Association is currently accepting applications to serve on section councils and committees for 2021-2022. You can view the list of sections by visiting; and the list of committees by visiting These small but incredibly influential groups, which span many practice and interest areas, are the lifeblood of our association. It is through them that we provide the services that are important to our members. These groups help put together CLE programs, propose legislation, create manuals and practice guides, and help the ISBA serve its members in countless other ways.

Please go to to submit an online application for up to three section councils or committees by April 1. Please note that you must first be a member of a section to apply for a section council position. Each application will be evaluated, and I will make the appointments for these positions later in the spring, to take effect after the ISBA Annual Meeting in June.
