• ISBA debuts new succession planning guide as member benefit

In order to assist Iowa's aging population of attorneys with succession planning questions and concerns, the ISBA has debuted a new handbook, entitled "Succession Planning Guide for Iowa Lawyers." This guide is intended to assist Iowa practitioners in implementing Iowa Court Rule 39.18, Iowa Court Rule 45.11 and Iowa Rule of Professional Conduct 32.1.3, which deal with attorney death or disability, and to prepare a practice for maintenance, closure or sale.

The primary focus of this guide is on planning by sole practitioners. However, it also offers guidance for a firm to ease the transition when an attorney member or employee becomes disabled or dies. Click here to view the guide.
