Our goal for this Community is to provide a resource to help members communicate with each other and share resources.

  • ABA releases ethics opinion on passive investment in alternative business structures

    On Sept. 8, the American Bar Association Standing Committee on Ethics and Professional Responsibility released a formal opinion that marks its first guidance for the legal profession on how existing ABA model rules might affect whether and how lawyers can invest in alternative business structures (ABS) when those lawyers practice in non-ABS jurisdictions. Read the opinion here.

     

    The ABA Standing Committee on Ethics and Professional Responsibility periodically issues ethics opinions to guide lawyers, courts and the public in interpreting and applying ABA model ethics rules. Other recent ABA ethics opinions are available on the ISBA website here.

  • Busy ISBA CLE schedule in September

    During the last half of September, The Iowa State Bar Association is offering various high-profile CLE programs which organizers believe appeal to both the newest member of the profession and the most-seasoned attorney. Highlighted CLE programs taking place this month include:
    • Sept. 21 – Ag Law Seminar
    • Sept. 22 – Federal Practice Primer
    • Sept. 23 – Commercial and Bankruptcy Law Seminar
    • Sept. 24 – Corporate Counsel and Trade Regulation Seminar
